ANKLE REPLACEMENT
ANKLE REPLACEMENT
An ankle replacement is a surgical procedure to treat ankle arthritis. This procedure is showing equal measures in pain relief as an ankle fusion. The added benefit of an ankle replacement is preservation of motion which is showing higher satisfaction in studies. An ankle replacement is similar to a knee or hip replacement. Metal and plastic implants are placed in the joint to alleviate the arthritic joint. Dr. Kennedy is the only fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon in Amarillo who is trained for this procedure. He is happy is able to bring this procedure to the community.
At Dr. Chad Kennedy Orthopedic Surgery our we focus on orthopedic repair and reconstruction surgeries for the whole musculoskeletal system, from repairing complex bone fractures to decompressing damaged nerves.
Once a patient’s condition or injury has been diagnosed, we will discuss all treatment options. Depending on the severity of the condition and the patient’s individual situation, these can include medicine, rehabilitation, nonsurgical injections and procedures, immobilization, and surgery.
Orthopedic surgeries can address and correct problems that occur at birth, through injury or as a result of aging, unexpected personal injury or athletic injuries. Depending on the type of surgery, it may be performed under general or local anesthetics.
